Univ.-Prof. Dr. rer. pol. habil. Dr. phil. Karl-Rudolf Korte studied political science, german studies and pedagogics in Mainz and Tübingen. In 1983 he received his state examination, in 1988 he obtained his doctoral degree at the University of Mainz, followed by his habilitation in 1997 in political science at the University of Munich.
After deputy professorships in Trier, Cologne, Munich and Duisburg Prof. Dr Korte was appointed to the University of Duisburg-Essen in 2002 where he holds the chair for “The political system of Germany and modern theories of the state”. Since 2000 he is director of the research group governance (“Forschungsgruppe Regieren”) and from 2005-2008 he was managing director of the Institute of Political Science at the University of Duisburg-Essen. In 2006 he was awarded with the title “Professor of the Year” in the category “Human-, Social- and Cultural-Studies” by the magazine “UNICUM-Beruf”. He has been Director of the NRW School of Governance since its foundation in 2006. Since 2010 Karl-Rudolf Korte is Dean of the Faculty of Social Sciences at the University of Duisburg-Essen.
