Jan Schoofs M.A. diskutiert in einem Beitrag für das American Institute for Contemporary German Studies (AICGS) Innovationsstrategien für die deutschen Mitgliederparteien.

The model of the member party turned out to be one of the fundamental cornerstones of German democracy. Although sometimes lagging behind, the German member parties have taken the challenge and adapted to their constantly changing social, economic, and political environment. Recent reforms show that they are on the right path. However, they will have to intensify their efforts to preserve their privileged status. A promising way forward will be more evolutionary than revolutionary and may be based on the following principles:

  • Experiment with Organizational Innovations!
  • Draw Lessons from Experience!
  • Respect Members’ Normative Expactations and Lines of Tradition!
